Claudeforce: Inside Salesforce and Anthropic's Bet on Agentic CRM

Written by Satish | Sep 8, 2026, 9:22:26 AM

On August 26, 2026, Salesforce announced results for its second quarter of fiscal 2027. The results were strong, and it turned out to be one of the best quarters for Salesforce. But what caught us by surprise was the announcement of Claudeforce.

Patrick Stokes, president of Applications & Marketing at Salesforce, said about this announcement: “What we’re seeing is that when people stop using Salesforce through the traditional human interface and start using it through an agentic interface, it dramatically increases the value of Salesforce.”

Dario Amodei, CEO & Co-Founder, Anthropic, echoed the same: “Salesforce in Claude brings this same frontier intelligence into the systems where much of the world’s commercial activity happens. Through this partnership, companies can point Claude at the customer information and business context that they’ve been building in Salesforce for decades, and use it to actually run and grow their businesses.”

Reading between the lines, both companies have something to gain from this framing. But, the key question is -

 Key Takeaways

  • Claudeforce brings Salesforce and Anthropic together, allowing businesses to access live CRM data, reason over it, and take governed actions through Claude.
  • Salesforce in Claude introduces 37 prebuilt sales skills, covering pipeline management, deal strategy, prospecting, meetings, CRM intelligence, and data hygiene.
  • The partnership has three pillars - Claude in Salesforce, Salesforce in Claude, and Claude in Slack, creating a connected AI layer across CRM, collaboration, and business workflows.
  • Claude is positioned to complement, not replace, Agentforce, with Claude focused on knowledge-worker tasks while Agentforce handles autonomous workflows and defined business processes.
  • Security and governance remain central, with Salesforce permissions carried into Claude and deployment options such as Amazon Bedrock helping organisations keep AI interactions within their compliance boundaries.

What Exactly is Claudeforce?

Simply put, Claudeforce is Salesforce and Anthropic joining hands to build an AI-powered CRM. The first product of this marriage is a plugin (Salesforce in Claude). It lets you query and act on live CRM data directly inside Claude. This means you can skip opening Salesforce altogether. As per the announcement, this plugin will be available with 37 prebuilt sales skills. Right from composing emails to updating records, you can do everything inside Claude.

Here is a list of the 37 skills:

It is also important to note that this new product is available only to select pilot customers as of today. Salesforce plans an open beta for September 2026. If you are an existing Salesforce user, expect two things. One, your CRM will become something an AI assistant can operate directly. Two, it will work under your existing permissions.

How Does the Partnership Work?

Claudeforce is not a new product. It is also not an alternate name for Agentforce. It's just the label for a unique partnership. This partnership is characterised by three pillars.

Pillar 1: Claude in Salesforce

Claude is the default reasoning model for Salesforce's Atlas Reasoning Engine. Right out of the box, Claude will power Agentforce Vibes and Agentforce Coworker. It will also be made available in Prompt Builder and Agent Builder. These are two modules in which most teams already build with Agentforce.

Beyond this, Claude can be accessed through Amazon Bedrock. This will be inside Salesforce's Trust Boundary. So, this will be the deployment path for all those who need a frontier model without data leaving their compliance perimeter.

Pillar 2: Salesforce in Claude

You can work inside Claude's interface. Reason over live revenue data. Then take governed action back into Salesforce. All your records will automatically update without you ever opening Salesforce UI. Just connect it once and set things in motion.

And that’s not even the best part. Authentication and permissions are managed centrally. This means your IT security team need not re-audit account by account.

Pillar 3: Claude in Slack

Claude will serve as the intelligent backbone across Slack. You can reason through complex decisions alongside Claude in Slack and execute high-value actions on-the-spot in Salesforce. This is largely due to the launch of Claude Tag, which is a new method of connecting the two technologies by utilising Claude in Slack. Once installed in any Slack workspace, you can hit @Claude in any channel to instantly loop in Claude. This way, you can collaborate on workflows and ideate in real time.

Claude Tag will let you treat AI as a team member, similar to Slackbot. You can grant it access to selected channels. Allow it to operate across tools and codebases. The agent then does the work in public view and tags you back when it’s done. Claude Tag also learns over time. This means you don’t have to explain things to it from scratch, and it can also learn from other Slack channels and data sources.

Will Claude replace Agentforce?

If you are already using Agentforce, you might have a pressing question after this announcement.

Will Salesforce replace existing Agentforce use cases with Claude?

Stokes has an excellent answer to this -

"These are not apples that you can look at as equivalent things. Agentforce is really designed for autonomous work or work that touches the end customer. So think about help.salesforce.com - that is an agent implementation specifically designed to interface with the end customer. Salesforce in Claude, by contrast, is a knowledge worker agent... specifically designed for sellers, for salespeople, to help them do their day-to-day job without having to do the traditional part of their job, which is click around in user interfaces and try to synthesise data themselves."

According to him, both tools serve different purposes.

Agentforce is an orchestration layer for defined business processes. In it, you specify:

  • Which data an agent can access
  • Which actions it performs
  • At which points a language model steps in to make a decision

It combines LLM reasoning with deterministic logic and existing Salesforce tools like Flows or Apex. In a service process, for instance, information might be automatically retrieved the moment a new case comes in. The model assesses priority. Salesforce updates the record, and the agent drafts a response based on that context.

Salesforce in Claude works differently. Instead of modelling a specific business process as an agent, it makes Salesforce data, context, and capabilities directly accessible inside Claude. This simply means you can ask questions about your Salesforce context in natural language and trigger actions conversationally.

This means Claude in Salesforce is more likely an additional way to access Salesforce than a replacement for Agentforce. The overlap will probably show up most in knowledge-intensive tasks Agentforce already supports.

Frequently Asked Questions

Salesforce in Claude allows users to work with live revenue data and take governed actions directly from Claude. Claude also operates inside Salesforce, including as a reasoning model for Agentforce.
Salesforce in Claude is the first product launched through the Claudeforce partnership. It provides 37 pre-built sales skills that help users review deals, prepare for meetings, analyze pipelines, and update Salesforce records. These actions are routed through Salesforce so existing business rules and permissions remain enforced.
Claudeforce enables an agentic CRM model where AI can reason over customer and revenue data and then take actions within governed business workflows. Instead of simply generating answers, Claude can work with Salesforce records, pipeline information, workflows, and business logic. This moves CRM from a system users operate manually toward an AI-powered system that can actively execute work.
Claude is available within Agentforce as a reasoning model for Salesforce's Atlas Reasoning Engine and is also used across Agentforce capabilities. This allows Salesforce AI agents to combine Claude's multi-step reasoning with trusted enterprise data and Salesforce business rules. The result is more context-aware and capable agentic workflows.
AI agents need reliable business context to make useful decisions and take appropriate actions. Salesforce provides customer data, workflows, permissions, and business logic that can ground Claude in the organisation's operational reality. Claudeforce is designed to combine this deterministic business context with Claude's probabilistic reasoning.
Claudeforce points toward a shift from traditional CRM interfaces toward AI-driven, agentic experiences. Instead of navigating multiple screens to find information and complete tasks, users can ask Claude to reason over business data and execute governed actions. This could make AI agents a new interface for sales, customer operations, and enterprise workflows.
